Angela is a watercolour and ink artist who takes inspiration from the world and experiences around her. She allows paint colours to run into each other in the delightful way only watercolour can. The unpredictability of the paint’s movement leaves interesting marks on the paper, which she then highlights with ink.
Angela had a long career as a nurse and afterwards in the pharmaceutical industry until after retirement she started a Fine Art, Painting and Drawing degree at the University of Northampton in 2019 where she graduated with a 1st class honours degree. After trying out many different mediums, oils, acrylics, and printmaking, she realised she loved most the medium she chose to use throughout her life, watercolour. Watercolours flow across the paper, colliding and merging with other colours and in doing so patterns develop that could not have created by design. She has learned to allow the paint to do the work and tries less to manipulate it. She says, “I am constantly amazed at how beautiful the works I create are, as they are not contrived, but unpredictable and that is a delight, and when the work dries, I highlight the edge where the colours end or where they have merged and thus created another colour of randomly mixed paint.
