I hand throw practical pottery on an electric wheel producing work suitable for that special occasion in ungrogged porcelain stoneware making individual small bowls and vases. All work is internally glazed.
While still on the wheel some pieces are turned and burnished with damp leather to give the smooth surface , others when dry enough are sanded creating a rough or smooth surface for glazing.
My main output at the moment is concentrated on small scale hand held pieces, when dry I bisque fire to 1000c. The work is then glazed with either earthenware or stoneware glazes before the second firing.
Dot and I share our workshop studio space in the old old converted washhouse in our cottage garden.
I am an idependent part time potter.
To me throwing is about how I feel, it is a very personal responsive tactile meditational experience.
When I sit down with a ball of clay I let the clay intuitively take me on a journey.
