Annette Elizabeth Sykes

A local girl, I attended Wellingborough High School for Girls, and then on to college to study Art and Sculpture. I worked as a screen print designer, then went on to study Textile Design and Embroidery. I now concentrate on printmaking and mixed media on board in my own Blue Frog Studio.

I am fascinated by shapes in ancient cultures, and in the marks left behind over the centuries. My latest collection of prints - 'A Stitch in Time' uses shadow images beneath the surface of the earth, printed, collaged Japanese papers, hand ,stitched together using pure silk thread. Ancient spirits guard Mother Earth in her time of dis - ease. In my latest acrylic works, I am drawing on potent inner journeys to create paintings full of joy, explosions of life bursting from the pieces of work.  Brush in hand an inner knowing takes over and without interference the images appear.
