Hi I'm Deborah Baker. I studied fine art at Birmingham polytechnic 1991-94. Whilst there I produced predominantly figurative sculptures, drawings and prints. Soon after leaving art school I had a family and embarked on a career as a primary school teacher. These have kept me busy and occupied, so for many years I didn't produce any artwork at all. In 2019 a good Artist friend of mine persuaded me to share her studio at The Sanctuary Northampton, it was one of the best decisions I've ever made! My children were older and I could escape for a few hours a week and just be creative. I've since left the studio but continue to produce work from home in my spare time. Observational drawing is at the heart of everything I do. I also see my mixed media work as drawing, but drawing with thread and paper. My mixed media work to date has been exploring the world of flowers and foliage and more recently insects. I love the organic shapes, colours and textures in nature. I also have a new passion for portraiture, I find it challenging but also very satisfying. My goal is now to get my work exhibited and seen by a wider audience.
