I am a primarily self-taught artist using traditional classical techniques in oils to produce my paintings. My skills and experience have been built up from many years practice and study. I'm based in Northampton, and portraits and figurative work feature strongly in my paintings, although I also find inspiration from the light, shapes and colours of the landscapes I encounter, particularly in Northamptonshire's underrated and beautiful countryside. Click on my website https://www.cordellgarfield.com/ to view a larger range of my portraits and landscapes.
Although I love using the classical techniques of painting from life, I also use a more contemporary approach to create my artistic vision. I will use digital media/photographs and my own imagination and sketches to produce my paintings. For me this is the perfect combination of the traditional and the modern approach to painting.
I am President of the Northampton Town and County Art Society, and I have exhibited extensively in the county at galleries and exhibitions including my own solo shows. However, my work is also held in collections outside the UK, and I have exhibited at the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists and in London notably at the Capital Art Gallery and the Talented Art Fair. In 2013 I was awarded the People's Choice Prize at the Alfred East Gallery, Kettering as part of their Open 13 Show.
I'm available for commissions and my work is available for purchase, and I can be contacted through my website https://www.cordellgarfield.com/contact/, phone or email for more details. I also conduct portrait painting workshops in oils which are designed to guide you through the process of creating your own portraits. They are both an instructive and enjoyable day, and details of past and forthcoming workshops can be found on this link https://www.cordellgarfield.com/workshops/
