I am very lucky to have a large studio in the pretty village of Foxton, near Market Harborough.
The village is surrounded by beautiful walks along the canals & fields, as a constant source of inspiration. As the seasons & light change, I am drawn to the colours in the shadows and the speckled light shining through the leaves.
Working from my studio, my current preoccupation is recreating the movement & reflections that I have seen in the water and how the light affects them. The purity & beauty of a surface hit by a sunlit moment are treasured & emphasized when there are deep, dark shadows lurking nearby.
My background in fashion and textiles has influenced my process of creating art. I try to generate the energy & movement of a sketch into my paintings. My avid passion for colour means that I prioritise mixing and producing interesting hues, using whichever medium that gives me the texture & fluency I need. I left fashion behind a long time ago, but through my paintings I can capture something more permanent & timeless.
I love to learn, as well as teach, so am always experimenting and challenging myself and others. Due to Covid-19, I have began teaching online classes, as well as one on one tution, to develop their skills and mentor both nervous beginners and more confident artists. The rest of my time is spent working on my own projects and commissions, as well as online galleries, talks & demonstrations. I am actively involved with local art groups & on the committee of the Leicester Society of Artists. My work is in private collections here, in France, Holland, Italy & Germany.
Ultimately, my greatest joy is to be lost in the process of creating.
