Johan describes herself as a Creative as she enjoys using multimedia to explore and express her creativity which she commenced doing seriously at the age of 42. At which time she did an art foundation course and attended a fine art degree at Central St. Martins in London. But, it was only the start of her creative journey, which took her to different places here and abroad with a sketch book in her hand. Her first love was acrylic inks which led to inks with fabric, wood, printing , wire and now glass. Her inspiration comes from the believe that we all are creative beings and it is important to take time to explore and trust where that will lead us. She is also a member of Kettering and District Art Society and has exhibited at The Alfred East Gallery Kettering and the The Rooftop Gallery Corby.
To display and sell her ink washes of seascapes and landscapes; she inlays each one in up-cycled pieces of oak. She also uses inks for figurative work and portraits. Figurative work is also expressed in her wire work sculptures as well as abstract and themes from nature.
Most recently Johan bought a kiln for glass work and been experimenting with glass fusion for which she has already received commissions.
Johan also enjoys running small group workshops to encourage other to explore their creativity through inks and mark making , especially suitable for those new to art or returning to it after years of absence. There are also glass fusion workshops for beginners available.
